School Mascot
The School mascot at Georgia Tech Monorail system is a 1930 Ford Cabriolet. In 1961, the school purchased and debuted the car. In 1982, the school had it restored by an alumnus who had previously managed a Ford assembly plant. Its lyrics boast of the school’s engineering prowess and its rivalry with University of Georgia.
The buzz is the school mascot and is one of Georgia Tech’s trademarks. It is often stylized, with a yellow head and white wings. It almost never has six legs, reflecting the tradition of calling Georgia Tech students Yellow Jackets. The mascot is a trademark and emblem of the university, and it has been a favorite among students. In fact, it’s even led the football team onto the field every home game since 1961.

Tumor Monorail Project
A recent Marcus Foundation grant will help the Atlanta-based Tumor Monorail project design and test a novel device for treatment of brain tumors. The project is a collaboration of Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The funding will help create the device and obtain FDA approval to conduct a clinical investigational new drug study.
The device works by siphoning some of the tumour cells into a reservoir, which sits on top of the skull or beneath the scalp. The process shrinks the tumour, preventing it from spreading. Preliminary trials on rats showed a 90 per cent reduction in tumour size. The researchers hope that this device can be used in combination with other treatments. The smaller a tumour is, the easier it is to treat it.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Osmania University and a Ph.D. in medical science from Brown University. He has been involved in the development of new medical technologies for several biotech startups. In the Tumor Monorail project, he is leading the clinical translation of a novel nanofiber-based catheter for brain tumor removal. Besides this, he is involved in research focusing on neovascularization and regeneration of peripheral nerves.
The Tumor Monorail mimics the physical properties of the white matter in the brain. By tricking aggressive brain tumors into migrating through the white matter, the device could prevent the spread of the tumor. It will be a long-term treatment, as the goal is not to destroy the tumour but to slow its spread.
