Rae Ann Brand, a certified clinical social worker, joined the Sault Tribe health center in 2013. She graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., in 1999. She has special interests in geriatrics, addictions, women’s health, and mental health. She is married to Scott Brand, a reporter for the Sault Evening News, and has two children. She enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.
The Sault Tribe Health Center offers a variety of services that are designed with your needs in mind. The clinic’s Registered Dietitian can help you set health goals based on your dietary habits. She will review your current eating habits and nutritional status, and will come up with a personalized treatment plan based on your needs. In addition, the Sault Tribe Health Center offers Tele-Psychiatric services, home-based parenting education, and urgent care services. In addition, the center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, a non-profit organization that strives to maintain high standards of care.
In addition to offering treatment for addiction, the Sault Tribe Health and Human Services – Munising provides education on medications and the dangers of drug use. Individual counseling is also available for patients suffering from substance abuse. The Center also offers Aftercare Support for individuals who have undergone treatment for an addiction.
The Sault Tribe Health Center’s Behavioral Health Program offers an array of culturally sensitive services to address the health needs of its tribal members. Services include individual, family, and group therapy. Psychological evaluations and psychiatric evaluations are also provided. Other services include acupuncture and home-based parenting education.
The Sault Tribe Health Center also provides diagnostic ultrasound for prostate, breast, vascular, and abdominal studies. Alexa started working for the Tribe in 2020 as an outpatient therapist. She specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Family Therapy. Outside of work, she enjoys playing sports, reading, and traveling. This is her first job in the health care field, so she is excited to help the community.
The Sault Tribe Health Center is home to an innovative program called the Baby Box. It is a safe alternative for infants to sleep and eliminates many dangers to their health. This program is modeled after a Finnish maternity program and is thought to be the first of its kind in an American Indian Tribe.
