The Volleyball Team of Date Tech had an ace and lead blocker on the team as well as a tall first-year setter. The team used bunch shift blocking, in which all players move together to block the opponents’ spikes. This made defense more difficult, but Date Tech’s skilled read blocking made up for it.
In the preliminaries, Date Tech played as team number 14 in the Sendai City Gymnasium. They played two games and reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to Aoba Johsai. Despite the early setback, the team placed within the top eight. The team was named after the famous Japanese historical figure Date Masamune, who is considered the founder of Sendai.
